What We Learned (June 8 Edition)

We took last week off because things were hectic - but when aren't they? This week the Mamas had a lot going on and had some fun. Every Sunday (well almost every Sunday) we let you know what we learned this week and what we enjoyed. In the comments let us know what your favorite part of your week was!

Lisa:

1. The school year is winding down and I cannot wait. Things are falling off the To Do List like apples off a tree! You never realize just how much you do during the year until it slows down. I think with all the rushing around, we are soooo ready to be bums!

2. It was recital time! Both girls did amazingly well. This was Pixy's 4th recital but Banshee's 1st. She did so well, that the Sailor and I were reduced to tears by the end of the night. Sometimes, the biggest hurdles are quietly (or musically) overcome.

Beautiful!

Gorgeous!
3. It's Pixy's bday weekend and we took some time to celebrate. She chose to attend a local carnival and we had a picnic. There were food trucks, face painting, a moonbounce, and live music. We had a great time! What a way to turn 6!!

Great party!

Liz:
1. I have spent the last three weeks teaching a Maymester class, a class that meets every week day for 3 hours straight for 14 days. It was insane. But also insanely rewarding. I met students who blew me away and made me happy to be a professor. It was a great experience. Will I do it again next summer? I don't know, it's really taxing and stressful on my brain and my body. But I am glad I did it. Up next? Two online classes that start Monday. Whew.

2. My parents arrived Saturday for their first visit in almost 2 years. Silas (now 4) and Sage (2 on the 16th) are both super excited to have them here. And my parents are loving it already.

3. Selling jewelry for Chloe + Isabel has become my new love. The ladies I work with are amazing. We had a meet up last Thursday and we had a blast. It's great to work with women who are happy to be working with other women, if that makes sense. We're all merchandisers in San Antonio, but nobody is competitive. We support each other. They're an amazing group and I'm so glad to be part of it. So if anyone needs any gift suggestions for jewelry lovers, let me know! Check out my boutique here. We recently ran a giveaway - were you the winner? Check your email!

Robyn:
Don't hate, Robyn's taking a break! She'll be back with us next week telling us all about her family's crazy fun :)

Now you - tell us what was great about your week in the Comments!

What We Learned (May 11, 2014 Edition)

Happy Mother's Day! Today we cebrate all our Mamas and Mamas to Be. Let's see what our three Mamas did this week.

Liz:
1. It's been a busy week here. I took Sage to urgent care last weekend because he had been kind of low-grade crying all day every day for a bit and he was diagnosed with a sinus infection and an ear infection. Then Silas got sick this week and had an upper respiratory infection. Then Daddy got sick and stayed in bed all day Saturday. I'm read for sickness to leave this house!

2. Next week is finals week at the college. My students are worried and excited. I'm glad that we're almost done (even though summer semester starts the Monday after finals end). Is it time for vacation YET?

3. I've been selling jewelry with Chloe + Isabel for a little over a week now and I love it. The new Moroccan collection came out this past week and it is gorgeous. I received a few pieces that I ordered Saturday and I'm in love. Have you checked them out yet? If not, take a gander at my boutique.

Lisa:
1. I was able to read two books in between naps and whilst doing chores this week. My brain is all excited from the workout and I was able to enjoy our bookclub chat immensely. (I usually do but this book made me go and research the subject matter. Ah-mazing!)

2. We got a lovely surprise in the mail for Cubby! A friend of ours sent us a lovely diaper cover in a rare print for us to use for a little while. The gesture, more than the diaper cover, means a lot. Plus, who doesn't like getting love mail?!

3. Mother's Day here is about making memories and in keeping up with that, I asked if this year I could have a garden planted in a certain spot in the backyard. I wanted a gift that we could all enjoy and that would help nature: we chose plants that would help honeybees feel welcome and be happy. The fun part was that we all stayed outside to work while it was raining!! We were all a huge mess but you could feel the love in our work. The plants look happy in their new homes and plans have been made to add more lovely plants and a gargoyle to guard them all. Let's face it, St. Francis needs a little help with the animals from an obliging gargoyle.

Robyn:

Now you! What did you learn or experience this week?

What We Learned (February 9th Edition)

Who's looking forward to spring?! We are! Today the Mamas dish about their weeks. Tell us about your week in the comments.

Lisa:
1. It is hard sometimes for a parent with a special needs child to not look for those telltale signs that something is off(yes even at 2mos! The earliest test at Kennedy Krieger is at 3mos. Cool, huh?). So, as I was playing with Cubby and worrying he wasn't making eye contact, he gifted me with this:

Cubby smiles and makes eye contact
Yup, here's looking at you, Mama! Thanks, Cubs.
2. I was able to enjoy an episode of Swamp People. Sweet!! I love watching those tough guys and gals because they remind me of my father's uncles. They fish in the high seas and it's a tough job. I like that they know the value of hard work. Also, I like to eat gator on rice, so it makes me a bit hungry. I'm a huge fan of The Landrys, Willie and Junior, and Trapper Joe and Trigger Tommy. Good stuff!

3. We hurried to get chores done today so we could play. The ice is now gone and it was snowing lightly, but we needed time out!  The girls were restless. They went out to play for a bit and then Sailor took them to our gym to play in their daycare. He wanted to go run for a bit too. Turns out the girls got to dance, play with a friend or two, and do some crafts...all in the hour while he was running! I stayed home with Cubby and got some paperwork done. Win win!

Robyn:

1. Could you, would you, in a car? I could, but never again will I pump and drive a car.

2. I've learned that Kasen wants to go to a Spanish church to learn Spanish songs. "But I hope the guy doesn't speak Spanish, cause I don't understand it, " he said.

3. After one week of playing Flappy Bird, my high score is a 12. A damn 12. Flappy Bird is the devil. Eff you flappy bird. Until we meet tomorrow...muahaha!

Liz:

1. Flappy Bird is the devil, I completely agree with Robyn. If it makes you feel any better, my high score is a 4. Mike's is a 5. Silas' score is 0 (he flaps once and then doesn't keep tapping). My students were playing this game before class started and I made the mistake of asking what it was and trying for a turn. For some reason the noise when the bird hits something makes me giggle every time. But I only downloaded the free version...I'm not invested ;)

2. This week I was reminded that people do appreciate when you work hard and enjoy your work. I was notified Friday that I'll be receiving a NISOD (National Institute of Student and Organizational Development) Teaching Excellence award in May in Austin. Pretty cool stuff!

3. I've never been one for co-sleeping. I think it's a fantastic idea but it's just not for us. I tried it when the boys were babies and I never felt comfortable doing it - it's as if I was worried about something bad happening (baby falls out of bed, baby gets rolled on, etc.). I also kind of worried that I wouldn't be able to sleep because I'd be constantly vigilant that the Bad Things previously mentioned might happen. Now that my sons are older, I think that it's sweet whenever Silas comes into my room at night and asks to sleep in our bed so I always say yes (to Mike's chagrin). But I always forget that he moves around a ton in his sleep and that I end up almost falling out of bed myself because he takes up over 1/3 of the bed. Cute but not so restful.

Your turn! Tell us about something amazing that happened to you in the comments.

What We Learned This Week (Sunday, September 29th Edition)

Where does the time go? It's yet again time for the weekly round up. We hope you enjoy reading these (or at least they entertain you) because we enjoy writing them! So Mamas, what did you learn this week?

Robyn:

I've learned Saturday mornings are Wild when I step back and observe...The kids came in (at 730...c'mon, seriously!) our room, wrestled us outta bed, and proceeded to follow like ducklings. Here we go! Into the bathroom. As the baby is strapped to my hip, I brush my teeth with the other hand, and the boys prep for Sean's haircut. Kasen got the broom and dustpan (riding it like a witch at times), while Dad cut Sean's hair into a Mohawk. "Gawwww, I'm BEAUTIFUL!," Sean says. And yes, picture day is this week folks.

I've learned just how tacky people can be. Kasen had his opening day of baseball this week. At the game, all sorts of people show up. Classy, sporty, and everything in between. While Kasen was batting, I noticed a grandma with her granddaughter sitting in fold out chairs. The grandma was changing the granddaughter (who was atleast 3). The granddaughter was standing up, and taking off her pull up in plain sight! I was disgusted that the woman didn't know better to atleast cover up that poor child. With all the pervs, pedophiles and molesters out there, you would think that more common sense would be used! SMH.

I've learned that every girl needs 'her girls'. My bestie is in North Carolina, and I miss her everyday. She knows me in and out, as I do her. We don't have to talk everyday, but when we do...it's like nothing has changed between us! I've learned to never trust that girl that doesn't have atleast 1 close girlfriend. There's a reason she can't keep any close confidants. She'll spill your business to get what she wants, destroying everything in the path. Be aware, these women don't change. Just be careful: these girls (mommies too) are PTA members, girlscout moms, home room moms, teachers or anywhere else women go! They are a Red Flag, Ladies! SWIM AWAY, SWIM AWAY :D

Lisa:
1. I was able to get Banshee a medical ID bracelet that is waterproof and little kid proof!! WOOHOO! She keeps it on every day and likes wearing it because it is "pink". It has the basic information on it and I feel better knowing that there is information in there that will help out a first responder. Go me!

2. I learned to give in and buy myself some maternity clothes. I am just not fitting into any of my regular clothes now and I kept putting off going to the store to grab a couple pants. Sigh..why do I make things harder for myself? Happy to report that I am now more comfortable and so is Cubby.

3. I learned that it is good to be teaching again, in any capacity. I volunteered to help out with the girls' Sunday School and it felt nice to be in the classroom again as an assistant. I feel like I take on a lot sometimes because I like to help but I had a blast today. It was cool. :)

Liz:
1) I learned that children's watches aren't necessarily waterproof. Silas got a watch because he used the potty. He wore it in the bath. It's now in a bag of rice on the counter. #Mommyfail

2) I figured out how to do some pretty cool stuff on the blog. Never too old to learn about coding I guess!

3) I heard Roo (Sage) say I love you back to me for the first time this week. Makes a Mommy's heart melt :)

What did you learn this week? Anything fun and amazing? What do you think about our learnings? Tell us about it in the Comments area!
